General Tallow Skincare FAQs
What is tallow skincare?
Tallow skincare is made from rendered animal fat (typically grass-fed beef) that closely mimics the fatty acid profile of human skin, making it highly nourishing and bioavailable.
Is tallow safe for skin?
Yes. Properly rendered, purified tallow is non-toxic, stable, and has been used for centuries to moisturize and protect skin.
Is tallow comedogenic (will it clog pores)?
No. Tallow is considered non-comedogenic because it closely matches the skin’s natural sebum, allowing it to absorb easily without clogging pores. However, it is highly recommended to apply to clean, lightly exfoliated and hydrated or slightly damp skin.
Does tallow smell like beef?
While not a medical treatment, many people find relief due to tallow’s barrier-supporting and anti-inflammatory properties. Where the fat comes from affects how it smells, because we strictly use the suet fat only that comes from around the kidneys and not fat from the whole animal, our tallow doesn’t smell like cooking tallow or a burger joint.
Why should I choose tallow skincare over conventional products?
Our tallow skincare avoids synthetic fragrances, unstable seed oils, preservatives, and fillers while nourishing skin at a cellular level.
Will this work for my skin type?
Tallow works well for most skin types, but everyone’s skin is unique. Patch testing is recommended.
How long before I see results?
Many people notice softer, calmer skin within days, with continued improvement over weeks.
Ingredients & Sourcing
Where does your tallow come from?
We use bison tallow from a regenerative ranch in Wisconsin where the bison are living wild, free and untamed as they should be. We source bison that is never fed grain, never given hormones, antibiotics or vaccines, one hundred percent chemical, pesticide and herbicide free. They are field harvested, never seeing a slaughterhouse
Is tallow skincare cruelty-free?
While tallow is animal-derived, it is typically a byproduct of the food industry and does not require animals to be harmed specifically for skincare.
Is tallow sustainable?
Yes. Using tallow helps reduce waste by utilizing the whole animal, making it one of the most sustainable skincare fats available.
Is tallow skincare organic?
Tallow itself cannot be certified organic, but it can be sourced from organically raised, grass-fed cattle and paired with organic oils.
Skin Types & Concerns
Is tallow good for acne-prone skin?

Can tallow be used on sensitive skin?

Is tallow safe for babies and children?
Yes. Pure tallow balms are commonly used for baby skin, diaper rash, and eczema.
